I Want You To Need Me
Chapter 2

"Goten.." Marron whispered, still staring at the place where Goten took his last step before he took off. Confused, she turned to Trunks, who was currently examining the photo.

"Yup, did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself... Say Marron, Goten looks pretty cute in this picture-- don'tcha think?" Trunks winked at her.

Marron's jaw hit the floor. "Y-you.. Trunks," she couldn't believe what she was hearing! Goten had just tried to kiss her and then left-- and all Trunks was doing was goofing off! She was enfuriated. "What the hell is going on? If this is another one of your sick jokes..."

Trunks shook his head, still smiling mischievously. "Nope-- not at all Marron-chan. Though I gotta tell you, I was really surprised that Goten actually broke up with Paresu, not that I didn't expect it to happen."

Marron let out a frustrated growl. Trunks was toying with her and he knew it! She sighed. With his cocky attitude, it was his nature to do things like that. "What are you talking about Trunks? Goten and Paresu are so perfect together..." Strangely, Marron found it hard to say those words. So perfect together... She loved Trunks! She couldn't possibly love Goten too! Marron dismissed the thought quickly-- Trunks was the one for her, she was convinced. Goten was just mislead, that's all... right?

"You mean you don't know? Man.. Look Marron, I know you're smart enough to figure this one out, but in the meanwhile, I gotta go home before mom has a fit." Trunks grinned, gave her a quick peck on the cheek, and picked up his bag.

"Trunks wait!!" Marron cried out. She was still confused about well, everything. She wanted answers and she wanted them now!

"Sayonara Marron-chan! Maybe I'll catch you next month, ne?" Trunks gave her a small wave and took off in the direction of Capsule Corporation, leaving a certain blonde, pigtailed lady behind.

Marron frowned, but turned around to go back inside the Kame House. What did he mean 'she didn't know'..? Goten was only one of her best friends! Nothing more! Yes, but so is Trunks, her mind reminded her. She scowled. This was just too much for her. Suddenly, the phone rang and startled Marron for the second time that day. She picked it up.

"Kame House, Marron speaking." she said politely.

"Marron-chan? What's wrong? You sound tired..." Marron let out a big sigh of relief. It was Pan. Someone to talk to, finally!

"It's nothing to worry about-- Trunks and Goten were just over so who wouldn't be, ne?"

Pan blinked. Trunks? She hadn't seen him for a long time, due to his extremely busy schedule-- yet he always found time to visit Marron. A small wave of jealousy hit her, but Pan was used to it and only sighed. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Hey listen, me and Bra are gonna have a girl's day out tomorrow, just hanging out and we wondered if you'd like to--"

"Sure I'll come!" Marron said brightly. She needed something to wear other than her usual white dress shirt, pink dress, etc. and shopping with Bra and Pan was always fun. Bra usually picked out the most revealing, stylish outfits while Pan usually picked out the most comfortable, casual outfits.

"Great! Bra's gonna pick us up at around noon, so be ready, 'kay?"

"Noon? Okay, I'll be ready... Say, umm.. Pan?"

"Hai?"

Marron bit her lip, wanting to tell her everything that just happened, but for some reason, couldn't. "Uhh.. never mind. See you tomorrow, okay?"

"Whatever you say Marron-chan."

Marron sighed. I guess I can't tell anyone then. She walked up the stairs, to her bedroom. She stared out the window, looking at the sunset. It was one of the many advantages of living in the middle of an ocean-- you get a kick ass view. Trunks... She breathed in the sweet scent of the ocean, the warm beach sand and the cool evening air all mixed in together and smiled. For now, all her problems were forgotten. The ocean always made her feel safe and at peace. An ivory white dolphin surfaced above the water suddenly, its clicks and squeals disrupting the momentary peace, yet when it dove back under the water-- Marron felt alone. Alone, she thought to herself, Always alone.

Too tired to undo her pigtails or to change into her pajamas, she crawled into bed, hugged her old, worn teddy bear she had proudly named "Nana" when her uncle Juunanagou gave it to her on her fourth birthday, and fell into a deep, soothing sleep.

Juuhachigou watched her daughter from the doorway, ice blue eyes glittering strangely. "Good night, my daughter.." she whispered, "Sweet dreams."

Goten had come home, only to find a note his mother had left him.

"Gone shopping. Be back soon. Dinner's in the fridge. Love you."

His saiyan nose could pick up the faint scent of his mom's delicious spaghetti and meatballs, but Goten didn't feel like eating. His stomach protested loudly, but he ignored it and walked to his room.

What's wrong with me..? Why Marron? ...why me? He sat on his bed for a moment and looked at his nightstand. There was a picture of Marron, Trunks and himself in a wooden frame. It was taken when they were all little-- a grinning Trunks had him in a headlock while Marron stood in front of them, making a victory sign with her hand. He turned the picture facedown. He didn't think he would be able to face Marron, not for a while. Wait for me Marron.. With that, he promptly fell asleep.
